NEWS FROM PREAH VIHEAR AREA

On October 15, 2008 at 14:15 Thai troops started attacking the Cambodian troops at three different places deep inside the Cambodian territory:

1. At Prolean Intry (Eagle Field), approximately 1,120 meters South of the International boundary line between Cambodia and Thailand.

2. At the area of Phnom Troap, 1,600 meters South of the International boundary line between Cambodia and Thailand.

3. In the vicinity of Keo Sikha Kiri Svara pagoda, approximately 300 meters West of the temple of Preah Vihear and approximately 700 meters from the international boundary.

Thai military had requested for demining of the area of Pralean Entry ( Phnom Troap area), but the request has been denied by the Cambodian military.

A military regional level meeting between Cambodia and Thailand is scheduled to be held after 15, October 2008. Changes are expected to occur.

All Thai military troops and personnel moved back to Thai old encampment at TaKream, North of Prasat Tamoan. 150 Cambodian troops are stationed about 400 meters South of Prasat Tamoan. The gates at Prasat Tamoan are unlocked and kept open for any civilian and unarmed people’s access, but the fence around Prasat Tamoan was left standing.

News from the Temple of Preah Vihear area

On October 7, 2008 at about 12:30 in the afternoon, an unarmed Thai soldier crossed TaThao pass on the Cambodian – Thai border, and entered the Cambodian territory. The Cambodian border guards arrested the intruder, and communicated with Thai authority under the process of handling the intruder over. At 02:30 PM the intruder was still under the guard of the Cambodian border guards pending the release.
