Cambodia and Cuba commit to bilateral cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 18, 2012 (PRU) – Cambodia and Cuba have committed to improve their bilateral relations for mutual benefit.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Sok An expressed thanks for Cuban support of Cambodia at the UNESCO and World Heritage Committee fora.

He said, “We had good cooperation with your predecessor”, referring to the former Ambassador Mrs. Gilda Lopez Armenteros.

Dr. Sok An told the newly appointed Ambassador, H.E. Jose Ramón Rodriguez Varona, that his work will further contribute to improving the cooperation with Cambodia.

H.E. Ambassador Rodriguez told H.E. Sok An that “Cambodians are nice and friendly”.
He said that Cambodia has changed in the sense that it is more developed and more young people speak English in their daily activities.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that Cambodia’s exports have increased sharply to US$4 billions.

He told the Ambassador that Cambodia’s development rests on political stability.

Dr. Sok An praised the Cuban rat poison BioRat, which helps kill rats that destroy rice paddy.

He said that Cambodia would like to have a foreign company to set up in order to produce BioRat in Cambodia so that Cambodian farmers do not have to import it from Vietnam.

“Cambodia has a big problem with rats; we cannot get rid of them”, he said.
