PRESS RELEASE 7th East Asia Summit (EAS) Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 20 November 2012


The 7th East Asia Summit (EAS) was held at Peace Palace, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on 20 November 2012. The meeting was chaired by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and attended by the Leaders of ASEAN Member States, the Hon. Julia Eileen Gillard, Prime Minister of Australia, H.E. Wen Jiabao, Premier of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, H.E. Yoshihiko Noda Prime Minister of Japan, the Rt. Hon. John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand, H.E. Lee Myung-bak, President of the Republic of Korea, H.E. Sergey Lavrov,  Foreign Minister, representing President Vladimir Putin, of Russia Federation and the Honorable Barack Obama, President of the United States of America. Secretary-General of ASEAN also attended the meeting.


The EAS Leaders discussed a wide range of issues including the review and future direction of the EAS cooperation under six priority areas namely environment and energy, education, finance, global health issues and pandemic diseases, natural disaster mitigation and ASEAN connectivity. The Leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues.
The Chairman’s Statement of the 7th EAS was issued on 20 November 2012 as an outcome of the Meeting. During the meeting, the EAS Leaders adopted the Declaration of the 7th East Asia Summit on Regional Responses to Malaria Control and Addressing Resistance to Antimalarial Medicines and the Phnom Penh Declaration of the East Asia Summit Development Initiative.
