Current Water Level Being Concerned

Wednesday, 08 Aug 2012 07:04
Although these recently months, rain water did not fall down much but as actual noticed, the water level of Mekong River had been gradually increased. Due to this circumstance, in the morning of August 07, 2012, after fulfilling his office duty, H.E Governor KEP Chuktema led his working team to inspect Kilometer No. 9 pumping station located along Tonlé Sap River and NR. 5 of Russey Keo District, Phnom Penh.

The Department of Public Works and Transport had mentioned that today (7th of August), water level of Mekong River is 6.30m and the water level of Mekong River within Phnom Penh is 5.20m. However, the Chaktomouk Pumping Station would be closed if the water rises up to 6.45m. Geographically, Phnom Penh is located in a flat area, which needs to be pumped regularly. But when water level is up, all pumping station would be temporarily closed not to flow into Phnom Penh back.
During that occasion, H.E Governor had appealed to technical officers to estimate an upgraded project to install more pumping motors at Toul Kok 1 Station (Trolork Bek) aiming to speed up the pumping work during heavy rain. Then, H.E Governor had visited an anarchy fishery activity and illegal parking of fishing boats at Kbal Chroy area, Chroy Changva Commune, Russey Keo District and instructed district authority to take immediate action on this matter. Those boats were not been allowed to park at that area and install “No Parking” sign; moreover, fishery activity was prohibited within the area in front of Royal Palace which regulated by the Royal Government and those anarchy activities could affect to the environment and public order along the river as well.

It would be remarked that the Capital Hall had installed a lot of drainage system and pumping stations as well as water gates to flow the water to every pumping station on time, especially water gate across Road No. 598, water gate to divide water from Km 9 station and Kob Srov station would serve vital role to divert water not to obstruct and flow to the northern and western part of Phnom Penh. Furthermore, the Capital Hall had been regularly inspecting the water level of Mekong River as well as storm water in order to get ready for on time emergency prevention.
